Check engine light: what it means and when to stop
A check engine light means the car detected abnormal behavior. It does not always mean immediate failure, but it does require diagnostics.
Stop immediately if
- The light is flashing.
- The engine is shaking or power drops suddenly.
- You notice fuel or burning smell.
